sandy skoglund prt 3

whilst looking at images of sandy skoglunds i ran across an artist who did the same kind of image for a project and was highly inspired by sandy and this is what he said and this is his image below

"An emulation of one of my new all time favorite photographers Sandy Skoglund. Her work is amazing and mine doesn't come close but I wanted to do it for a class assignment. Most of her images contain elaborate sets in one color with a strange object that doesn't belong in the setting in a contrasting color. I think I might need more birds. "

Sandy Skoglund part 2

as i had mentioned in the first part, sandy uses a very vivid set of colour, most of the image is all the same apart from one part which is normally the first part of the image u focus on, this image below is a great example of this, the whole image is a green with different shades except for the plant, which is sitting right in the middle, why is it there?, why isnt it the same colour?, why a plant? many questions come to mind which will never be answered, i believe that this will help me for a colour scheme for my image as i am colour blind, so i may use very random colours as an artistic choice to make the audience think to themselfs, is that what it is like to be colour blind, but the image itself will make them ask many more questions, this could be the start of an idea that i may progress with.

Sandy Skoglund

this image is know as revenge of the goldfish, i have been looking at a lot of her work and the same thing comes to mind between her work and gregory crewdsons, i look at the work and many questions come to mind but no answers, i can think up scenarios as to why the goldfish could be there or as to why they r taking revenge but why in the bedroom, why is the room all the same colour, i get many different feelings from this image which i cannot quite describe or say what they are, the images sandy produces are very dream like. from looking at some of her work i am starting to get ideas which i will need to put down on paper, the images themself are quite desturbing in some way and this is giving me ideas as to what i will need to make the audience feel from my image which i am going to create, a sense of uneasieness, the uncanny in some ways, an image which if it where real and you was in the middle of that image would make you feel scared or worried, i think this is the approach i am going to be using for my project idea.

research

well iv been looking at images from each artist and im finding myself asking lots of questions about the image with no answers there, each image seems to be a huge mystery and i believe this is what the project is mainly about, making an image which makes the viewer ask more questions about the image without giving answers as to why, i believe this is something gregory crewdson does very well with his images. there are lots of questiosn and no answers.

like with this image, u can ask a lot of questions but those kinda questions u can also answer to some degree but when it comes to the light, its puzzling and mysterious, where does it come from? why is it lighting up only that area? why not somewhere else? it makes you ask lots of questions and there are more questions than answers in the image itself.

3red semester part 2

right this is my second blog entry on the 3rd semester now, we have watched a few films and we have started workin in maya which i have been waiting for, our first project in maya is to create this environment picture and render it out, the second thing which we are working on in maya is a pre viz video which i have enjoyed so far, i have chosen the classic car scene from the film wanted and im remaking it in maya as a pre viz piece of work, the animation is almost done and i just need to animate the characters/people in the scene, the vehicles are done apart from 2 doors lol.

i have been looking at a lot of images from a few artists but i stall havnt quite thought up my image, i have some ideas which i need to get down onto paper but hopefully all will do well, il write some more on here later as going to do some more research, cya

3rd semester start

right this is my first blog, iv had a week now to look over the project and i have had a few ideas for the different projects i am to be working on, i have set out the layout for my website which we are creating in dream weaver and for Alan i have chosen my video for my pre-vise animation. i have looked through multiple films that i enjoy with action scenes and my choice fell down to the car chase scene in wanted where the car spins around and the main character ends up in the car. the other scene i have chosen was from iron man, the scene where tony is in the suit trying to evade the 2 raptor fighters in the sky. i believe these scenes would be very interesting and fun to create pre-vise for.

over the last week i have also been looking at images by gregory crewdson, i have been looking at his work and some other to try and find an edge on the image i am going to create for my final crit. i will post later to show some of the things i have been working on.

3rd concept

my 3rd concept image os of nemo and the character whos eyes we see the story through, they go out into the depths of the sea in diving suits to search for the mysterious light, they have to treck over mountains and through forests and travel on a trecherous journey towards the light source which we finally find out to be atlantis. i looked into images relating to under water cities and atlantis to get ideas for my story, at first i didnt quite inderstand the scene but when it came to the interim crit phil told me to read on further and i then found out about them finding the city, this then gave me an image in which to work with. here are some of my researched images.

this image i really like as it seems really mysterious and the style in which i would love to capture in my image but for what i want to create the image is inapropriate.

second concept image

my second concept image was an underwater forest so i started off by doing some searches on underwater forests and what i got was kelp forests, and when reading the book it says that they stand like iron rods, which is like long thin kelp trees. i got lots of reference images to help with my idea.

whilst looking through the images i noticed a pattern in the colours but colours for me made this a problem as i am colour blind so i had a big set back on this project. i found it really hard to try and find the colours that i needed so i tried to stick to black and white as shades as much as possible. in the book it says the colours that they see but this was of no help to me. so in the end i tried to follow the colours of my research images.

second project space

right i really should have started this a lil while ago but have only just got round to it, had a lot of things going on over the past few weeks lol. anyway in this project we have the theme for "space" as in why things are positioned and not the outer space kinda stuff.

i got the book twenty thousand leagues under the sea for my project with 3 scenes written down which i am producing concept work for.

my first scene is cap'n nemo's museum/study kinda thing which i got the dimensions of 30 feet long, 18 wide and 15 high, pretty big room, so i looked into angles and the room iteself the nautilus and other things i could think of. here are some of the research images i found.

after looking at these for a few references i created some draft scetches to try and find the best perspective, the strongest image for my concept image.

this image i believed to be the strongest and so i chose this image to create my final image for my first concept. im no good at creating a perspective, i can see it in my mind but i cant put it down onto paper and so the way i got around this problem was to create the room in maya in less than 5 minutes and then add a camera, i made the room acording to the size mentioned in the book and then moved the camera until i found the perspective view i wanted. i then used this to draw my final perspective view and scanned in the image to start working on.

here is the image atm, i still have some work to do to it but its coming along nicely.

Essay research

well it is the beggining of the 4th week and im sitting in the base room as i arrived at Uni very early due to having to get the early train this morning, i decided to use this spare time to my advantage and get working on this essay.

i have done research by browsing various websites which i shall post a few links to at the bottom of this blog.

from the research i have done i have found that portraiture or portraits are artistic representations of a person in which the face and its expression is predominant, this is captured in a painting, photograph, sculpture or other form.

the purpose of a portrait is to display the likeness, personality and even mood of the person in the portrait.

when an artist tries to capture the likeness, personality and mood of one-self the image is called a self portrait. examples of self portraiture became numerous around the late middle ages but the first self portrait was by the Egyption Pharoah Akhenaten's sculptor Bak, who carved a self portrait representing himself and his wife.

portrait photography has now become the main priority when it comes to family portraits which many families enjoy having professionaly made to hang in thier homes, special portraits to commemorate certain events such as graduations and weddings are also very popular. since photography was invented portraits have become a popular commercial industry all over the world. This massive popularity in the middle of the 19th century was due to the large demand for inexpensive portraits which studios sprang forth in cities around the world, some studios making up to 500 plates a day, maybe more.

well this was part of the research i have found and so im going to leave it at that for today, i will write up more later hopefully, gonna work on my portrait image a bit more, signing off

bye

week 3 at uni

Hi again, I'm back, at the start of the week we had our interim crit and i got some positive feedback on my ideas but i still feel as thought my projects isn't coming together properly, unlike in college we got told what we had to do in uni its completely different and we got thrown into the deep end, we don't get told what to do we just get told we have this project and everything is in the brief, but the brief doesn't explain the project in as much detail as i would like. o well i just gotta stick it out lol.

i have a few ideas for my project and i have a new idea which relies on photo shop quite a lot as it is a big part of image manipulation and so i am going to give it a shot and see how it turns out, i am also going to create my other idea and once both images are completed i am going to get some feedback from others and see what they believe is my best piece to submit for my project, i am also going to ask Phil to see what he thinks of my work.

im going to upload some images that i have later tonight of photos i have taken for my image, and hopefully i may get a comment or 2 on what ppl may think of my work.

well im off for now until later.

second week at uni

Hi again

Im in my second week at uni now and I feel my project is coming along, I have a few ideas which I posed last week and I have started sketching some ideas this week ready for monday. Im still not sure which idea to go for a but Im sure it will come to me soon. I have done some research on the internet on portraiture and self-portraiture and I am going to ask about the essay to get some help with writing it up, Im not to sure about the topic in which we are supposed to be talking about, I know its portraiture and that but what is the question we are asking. I need to ask phil to find out which I will do at lunch if I can find him. once I have spoken to him I believe I have everything I need to write up my essay. I am also going to print of my research and write up notes on things I have found to build up my research for the final critique.

Im not sure what else to write about so im signing off

talk later

bye

First day of blog

Well I only just started this blog today but I am already writing my second blog as I think I am going to use this to write down ideas for my work as I can then use this to show development and stages.

Iv had a good day today, we finished off our first lesson quite quickly as most of us already knew what to do and we raced through the brief as it where. we then finished off the day with a workshop induction which was a lot of fun and I believe with some of my work in the future I will be using the workshop to help with my presentation of work.

After uni I got home and thought of the work we have set for this sememster, we have to do a self poirtrait and from the videos and slides we have been shown I was thinking of what I could do and so I wrote down how I see myself and I believe I have my idea for my portrait, but its still in devolpment these ideas. I see myself as a puzzle as im very complicated and a bit of a mystery so maybe pieces wont be there, I also dont like to stand out from the crowd, I try to blend in way too much and dont do much outgoing and for this reason I believe my portrait might be faded. also im not very colourful with the way I see things and you could call me a very sereotypical person, I dont vary too much and for this I cant see my picture in colour but rather black and white whith all different shades in between as to represent what would be colour. these are a few ideas and so my project is under way. I have no idea on how this is going to turn out tho so the final result will be very interesting.

Im off now to think and maybe try out some things, I may write later.

My first entry

Well I have just started my first week at University, everything is fine and I am finding it quite easy.

The campus is one big maze tho and its easy to get lost but me and my friends are adjusting and helping each other out.

This first week has been really fun and I have made new friends.

I have started using Maya or trying to use Maya at least for the first time and it is very confusing, I prefer using 3DS max as the layout is much easier come to terms with and is a lot simpler when it comes to modeling.

I have used Photoshop and Illustrator as well, I have used PhotoShop for about a year and a half now but this is my first time using Illustrator and I am really enjoying it.

I am going to upload some images here that we did for practice in Photoshop and Illustrator during this week.

This is me signing off till next time.

Bye.
