second project space

right i really should have started this a lil while ago but have only just got round to it, had a lot of things going on over the past few weeks lol. anyway in this project we have the theme for "space" as in why things are positioned and not the outer space kinda stuff.

i got the book twenty thousand leagues under the sea for my project with 3 scenes written down which i am producing concept work for.

my first scene is cap'n nemo's museum/study kinda thing which i got the dimensions of 30 feet long, 18 wide and 15 high, pretty big room, so i looked into angles and the room iteself the nautilus and other things i could think of. here are some of the research images i found.

after looking at these for a few references i created some draft scetches to try and find the best perspective, the strongest image for my concept image.

this image i believed to be the strongest and so i chose this image to create my final image for my first concept. im no good at creating a perspective, i can see it in my mind but i cant put it down onto paper and so the way i got around this problem was to create the room in maya in less than 5 minutes and then add a camera, i made the room acording to the size mentioned in the book and then moved the camera until i found the perspective view i wanted. i then used this to draw my final perspective view and scanned in the image to start working on.

here is the image atm, i still have some work to do to it but its coming along nicely.

Essay research

well it is the beggining of the 4th week and im sitting in the base room as i arrived at Uni very early due to having to get the early train this morning, i decided to use this spare time to my advantage and get working on this essay.

i have done research by browsing various websites which i shall post a few links to at the bottom of this blog.

from the research i have done i have found that portraiture or portraits are artistic representations of a person in which the face and its expression is predominant, this is captured in a painting, photograph, sculpture or other form.

the purpose of a portrait is to display the likeness, personality and even mood of the person in the portrait.

when an artist tries to capture the likeness, personality and mood of one-self the image is called a self portrait. examples of self portraiture became numerous around the late middle ages but the first self portrait was by the Egyption Pharoah Akhenaten's sculptor Bak, who carved a self portrait representing himself and his wife.

portrait photography has now become the main priority when it comes to family portraits which many families enjoy having professionaly made to hang in thier homes, special portraits to commemorate certain events such as graduations and weddings are also very popular. since photography was invented portraits have become a popular commercial industry all over the world. This massive popularity in the middle of the 19th century was due to the large demand for inexpensive portraits which studios sprang forth in cities around the world, some studios making up to 500 plates a day, maybe more.

well this was part of the research i have found and so im going to leave it at that for today, i will write up more later hopefully, gonna work on my portrait image a bit more, signing off

bye

week 3 at uni

Hi again, I'm back, at the start of the week we had our interim crit and i got some positive feedback on my ideas but i still feel as thought my projects isn't coming together properly, unlike in college we got told what we had to do in uni its completely different and we got thrown into the deep end, we don't get told what to do we just get told we have this project and everything is in the brief, but the brief doesn't explain the project in as much detail as i would like. o well i just gotta stick it out lol.

i have a few ideas for my project and i have a new idea which relies on photo shop quite a lot as it is a big part of image manipulation and so i am going to give it a shot and see how it turns out, i am also going to create my other idea and once both images are completed i am going to get some feedback from others and see what they believe is my best piece to submit for my project, i am also going to ask Phil to see what he thinks of my work.

im going to upload some images that i have later tonight of photos i have taken for my image, and hopefully i may get a comment or 2 on what ppl may think of my work.

well im off for now until later.

signing off
