we have to create the animation with the human anatomy in mind and choose our own topic. i have an idea of what i want to do my project on but im not sure how to represent it as an animation.
i have chosen pernicious anemia for my project as it is a form of anemia where there is a deficiency of the vitamin b12 and can be quite serious but a lot of people do not understand this so i believe creating this animation would be beneficial to the brief as we have to pitch it as if we are trying to get funding for the animation for a science museum on showing some part of the human anatomy and i believe this would be a big advantage.
i am still looking at other ideas and trying to find ideas but this is a main big idea for me which i am going to try and work on.
Pernicious anemia
Pernicious anaemia is a condition in which the body does not make enough red blood cells due to a lack of vitamin B12 in the body. It usually occurs in people whose bodies have lost the ability to absorb vitamin B12 from food.
In pernicious anaemia, the blood cells do not divide normally and are too large. They have trouble getting out of the bone marrow. The problem is due to a lack of vitamin B12 in the body. Vitamin B12 is one of the B vitamins; B vitamins are found in animal foods such as meat, fish, eggs, milk, and other dairy products. Vitamin B12 is necessary for the body to make red blood cells. It is also needed for the normal working of the nervous system.
The condition was named “pernicious” anaemia because it was often fatal in the years before the cause was discovered to be a lack of vitamin B12, and no specific treatments were available. Now it is easy to treat with vitamin B12 pills or injections. Pernicious anaemia can be severe if it goes on for a long time without being treated. If it is not treated, it can cause permanent damage to the body. Pernicious anaemia is especially common in older adults.
People who have pernicious anaemia often feel tired and weak because the body is not getting enough oxygen. Over time, if untreated, this disease can cause serious problems for the heart, nerves, and other parts of the body.
this is going to be my basis for my work as i am going to try and get across to the audience just what pernicious anemia is and how it can affect the body in certain ways which can be deadly if untreated.
some the things that can happen due to anemia are
heart murmurs
fast or irregular heart beats
an enlarged heart
heart failure
heart attacks
strokes
damage nerve cells leading to
numbing tingling feelings
problems with walking and balance
can change taste smell and vision
can also cause memory loss, mental changes and confusion
can change the surface of the tongue
shrink or thin the stomach lining
any changes that occur inside the stomach can lead to stomach cancer
these are just some of the things that pernicious anemia can cause and as you can see it can be quite deadly as b12 helps create blood and without b12 blood cannot be reproduced and so the blood levels drop which can then lead to a coma if untreated and then death.
pernicious anemia was very fatal before the cause was discovered and no treatments where available and this is what i am going to try and portray in my project.
